Licensed Professionals and Medicaid Fraud
Being convicted of a crime is an act of professional misconduct I New York. If you have any professional license, at some point you will be required to report your conviction to the State Education Department or it will be reported by some other agency, and an investigation by your licensing body will begin.
If you are a doctor, your case will be investigated by the Office of Professional Medical Conduct. If you are a lawyer, you will be investigated by Judicial Department where you were admitted. NYC employees are dealt with by their Departments (BOEd for teachers), and all other professions are investigated and prosecuted by the Office of Professional Discipline.
As a result of your criminal conviction, your professional license can be suspended or even revoked, and if you are a healthcare provider, your participation in the Medicaid program will be terminated.
If you are a licensed professional, you need to understand your options before agreeing to any plea offer from the prosecutor. Call me today to discuss.
